Big Yellowfin on Kite Bite

Capt. Nick Cremasco
May 28, 2014
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today we fished with Leif and his guest and we started the day catching a little bait for a kite fishing charter. We set up and quickly jumped off a sailfish in the first 15 minutes. After getting reset we had a big bite on the bow short kite bait. The fish dumped about 500 yds. of line and the steady off. We ended up spending 2 hours and 5 minutes on the fish before we were able to sink a gaff into the fish.

In 35 years of being here, I have never caught a yellowfin tuna on a local day of fishing and we were fortunate to catch a 95 lb. yellowfin tuna today with Leif. He fought the fish on 20 lb. tackle and did one hell of a job landing the fish. After the battle we switched gears to bottom fishing where we broke off a grouper and caught a nice size genuine red snapper that we let go. We ran in and looked for cobia and hooked one but unfortunately pulled the fish off.
