Yellowfin Tuna and Cobia on the Menu

Capt. Nick Cremasco
July 19, 2013
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Date: July 13

Today we fished a 1/2 day fishing charter and conditions were tough. The current is still ripping offshore making it impossible to bottom fish. Dolphin fishing has been next to none existent and the sails are moving out. The best thing going has been Cobia and we ended up catching 3 out of 4 Cobia bites keeping two keepers.

Today we fished a 1/2 day fishing charter and stayed nearshore for some good action. With the conditions offshore I felt our best opportunity for success at bending the rod and catching dinner for our clients was fishing for Cobia on the inshore reefs. We caught a little bait and ran to a spot to make out first drift. Before we got a complete spread out we caught a keeper Cobia. On the second drift of our Jensen Beach Fishing charter we caught another keeper Cobia, a couple sharks and a bonito. We decided to make a 3rd drift and then it was lock n load. We had over 20 cobia swimming around the boat and we caught 8 more keeping 4 fish and giving us a limit of 6. When the dust settled we decided with an hour left to run offshore an see if we could get a bait to the bottom for a grouper bite. Unfortunately as suspected the current was ripping and we were unsuccessful. We put a surface spread out and caught a triple-header of bonito to end the day.

Today we fished a two day fishing trip with regulars Doug, Jed, Jeff and Bill. We enjoyed great weather the first day and good fishing for tuna. We caught 6 Yellowfin Tuna with 1 over a 100lbs. We also caught 7 Blackfin tuna from 10-18lbs. On the second day the weather was not great but we managed to catch 8 Grouper to 30lbs and 7 Snapper before deciding to call it early and head for the barn.

Today we rescheduled repeat client Robert N. because of high winds. Looking forward to getting out tomorrow.
