Tarpon have arrived in Sugarloaf Key

Capt. Kyle O'Hearn
May 7, 2014
Sugarloaf Key - Saltwater Fishing Report

I headed out yesterday in the pursuit of tarpon. I first went out to search the backcountry and only found about 3 laid up around Raccoon Key. So we decided to try our luck out on the Atlantic side because that's where I have seen the most activity this week. There is a migration going on and most of the fish are coming from the west and headed east. Must have seen about 50 fish in a matter of an hour. Most of the fish are on the move and we got 2 of them to take a mullet. Come on down and fish with Captain Kyle O'Hearn and have the time of your life. The permit have not been seen and are most likely spawning on the wrecks but should be back in a week or so. The wind has picked up to 20 knots for the rest of the week so fishing for tarpon in the channels will be your best bet for the most part.

Sugarloaf Key Fishing Forecast:

The forecast for the rest of the week is looking bleak. High winds will be here until maybe Monday or Tuesday of next week so the forecast will be either fish for tarpon in the channels by chumming them up or going for big barracudas on the flats along with some monster lemon sharks.

Target Species:

Tarpon
