Amberjack Bite Good

Capt. Dustin Hilliard
February 24, 2015
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The amberjack bite has been good in 60+ feet of water. Live bait has been best - Pinfish, grunts on knocker rigs or a fast moving butterfly jig will get their attention.

There's been some nice hogfish caught on shrimp in 30 ft. and out.

Redfish have been feeding well on shrimp, finger mullet and pinfish under a float, on high tides under mangroves and around oyster bars.

The trout bite has been consistent. On average, 15 to 22 inches with some bigger ones in the mix on artificial gulp with a 1/4 ounce jig head, working it slow on the bottom.

Live shrimp is a great back up when the bite slows down. Look for schools of silver trout by covering ground, fan casting artificials off beaches and grass flats.

Spring is almost here... Tarpon, kingfish and cobia are coming soon.

Tight Lines,
Captain Dustin
