April starts out with big Snook

Capt. John Rivers

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Fishing in Tampa Bay
April fishing in Tampa Bay started out strong just as March ended strong. The Snook fishing has been the best I've ever experienced, and not only has it been very good, we have been hooking big fish over 30" on almost every Tampa Bay Fishing Trip.

The last two hours of the incoming tide and the first two hours of the outgoing tide have provided quality snook catches.
Redfish have been hit and miss for me; one day we'll do well and the next day I'll be scratching my head, but that's fishing. I've not been targeting trout much lately, but they are still around, and if you're looking to hook into a few, fish the flats in 3-6 ft of water on an outgoing tide. When it comes to trout, I like using my artificials, and Matrix Paddle Tails and MirrOlures are my go to baits.

If you're looking for mangrove snapper, the bridges and rocks piles have been very productive, and once in a while, they'll show up in the mangroves.

We've had a few cold fronts this April, which I've liked as it's kept the water temps down and the bite productive. I'm keeping this report short as I'm heading out on a charter.
If you're going to be in the Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete or Tarpon Springs area, give me a ring and let's get you out for a fun day on the water.
