Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow, it's hot outside! Getting started early always helps you from melting and the fish have been more active early. As the sun comes up in the sky and as the tides begin to rise, everything starts to hide under the mangroves in the shade. Getting your lure or bait as close to the shadow line is critical as the fish don't like to come out too far from the shade to eat your bait! If you are going to fish the afternoon, working moving water is key.

Black drum have been an easier target and have been willing to eat during the hottest parts of the day. The redfish bite has been on and off depending how much pressure the have been receiving. The average fish is 25 to 30 inches, with some in the mid to upper 30's in the mix.
