End of January Tampa Bay Fishing

Capt. Little Jim Fesperman
January 30, 2009
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week has been very tough fishing. I was on the water both Monday and Tuesday but had to cancel charters on Wednesday and Thursday due to weather. I had a couple of great guys Larry and his dad Bill out on Tuesday in the South Pinellas area. We caught fish but as it was on Monday bites were hard to come by. Most of the fish came in the late afternoon. The weather was a warm Chamber of Commerce day. I was able to find water temperatures on the flats of 60.5 in the morning and darker water potholes in the afternoon up to 64 degrees when the bite improved. This is a very encouraging sign. Should the daily temps begin to creep up fishing will improve. In fact, if the temps just stay constant, even if colder fishing will get better. Again let me say that the fishing was great but the catching is slow.
