Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Greetings from Yes Bay Alaska! Ashton and I finally arrived and to say Alaska is beautiful would be a huge understatement, for this is truly "God's Country." My morning begins by setting crab and shrimp pots, then motoring out to the fishing grounds with my clients. On our way we see numerous bald eagles, seals, hump back whales and an ever present pod of orca whales including a particularly large boss whale we call "crooked fin." "How the fin got crooked is a whole other story." However, his dorsal fin stands 8-10ft tall and the mere presence of this giant is a very humbling experience.
The King Salmon have started to arrive and it looks as if we are going to have a great season. Yesterday I landed a 22lb King and today two 30's were brought to the dock and the season's just beginning. This year the chum salmon are here early and are big and bright straight out of the pacific. They've been ranging around 10-12lbs, The chum are alot of fun, often jumping a half dozen times a hook up.

The halibut bight has been heating up. We weighed one in tipping the scales at 103lbs and they get alot bigger than that at Yes Bay.All the fish have been we've been landing at Yes Bay have been on Eupro hook and line.

Aside from the Kings, the action is really suppose to get crazy at the end of July all the way through September. I'm told this is when the silvers and pinks will be flooding Yes Bay and fillet table will be working overtime. If any O'Brien's Fishing Club members are interested in visiting Ashton and myself to slay the salmon and halibut shoot me and e-mail [email protected]
