Fall Fishing

Capt. Dustin Hilliard
November 3, 2017
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall fishing with the two hard fronts behind us, they dropped the water temperatures dramatically. The lower temperatures have changed things up for the last couple weeks. The bait has moved around and our target fish have huddled down a bit. Now that the air temperatures beginning to come back up, look for the water temps to increase also causing fish to feed better.

The redfish bite has been good on the incoming tides. Shrimp, green backs and top water plugs have been working around oyster beds and mangrove points. Inshore reefs have been holding quite a few gag groupers with some keepers in the mix. Pinfish and white bait on the bottom has been working well. Adding a free lined blue runner or pilchard can yield a kingfish, Spanish mackerel or cobia. There are still snook on the beaches but a lot have pushed into the rivers and backcountry areas for their winter migration. Greenies, grunts or mirror lures can get their interest when placed right in front of the right fish!
