Great Fall Fishing

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Late October can be a great time of year to catch a multitude of species. Inshore, assuming water temperatures remain in the seventies, snook still remain a possibility. Although much more scattered than during summer months, small to medium snook can be a dependable catch on most trips until the cold settles in. Redfish are still active as well, although the "lower" high tides of fall and make catching them a bit more difficult. The big upside, however, is what is going on off the beach. As schools of threadfin herring gather near shore, a host of predators will show up to take advantage. Already, kingfish have arrived and, barring any sudden and repeated cold snaps, should be around for while. The Spanish mackerel are very abundant as well, and as temperatures do start to head downward, snapper and near shore grouper activity should improve. Finally, Thanksgiving is generally the time when the large seatrout appear in local waters. Bottom line, fall is a great time to get a broad sampling of what can be caught off of west central Florida. Good luck and good fishing.
