Hot Offshore Fishing and Full Fish Boxes

Capt. Pedro Borrego
September 14, 2015
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico in the fall can be very rewarding. Most of all the species will be open except for red snapper, so it makes for a good looking fish box at the end of the day. Red grouper has been on fire offshore with lots of gray snappers mixed in. You will also get porgies, lane snapper and few yellowtails. Cut bait and squid is the preferred bait. Further offshore, amberjacks and cobia are on some of the deeper wrecks BIG live baits is the key to success. Gag groupers have been a little harder to catch this year, they seem to be a lot further out this year than normal and a lot less of them as well. Spanish mackerel seems to be starting to show up near the beaches so kings will be here soon trolling for these guys is the way to go light tackle is lots of fun.
