Kids and Snook Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
October 6, 2012
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jet 9 and Jake 7 along with Mom and Dad have fished we me the last several years. Its great seeing these super young men grow up. We started the day chasing redfish with not much action. Finally a rod began to scream and Mom was tight to solid fish. After 5 minutes we saw the big redfish was actually a big ray!

Next up we moved to deeper grass flats and immediately started catching trout. Small white baits under a float did the trick. Soon we had ladyfish and mackerel joining the party. The action was steady and lots of fun. We played with the trout until the tide changed and the bite abruptly stopped.

The snook bite has been steady along the passes. Its great to see the snook population rebounding after the freeze several years ago. Jake quickly got in the action with a very nice snook that jumped numerous times and ran all around the boat. After several minutes he was proudly posing with his first snook. Not 5 minutes later we had a big snook explode on a bait only to come unhooked quickly.

As luck would have it minutes later Jet got into a beautiful fish. The snook exploded several times and make numerous runs towards the mangroves. With Dad helping the upper 30" snook was now boat side. As I tried to boca the snook the frayed line gave way!
