Big Redfish are biting

Capt. Troy Mainzer
August 5, 2013
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The big overslot redfish have been biting in Tampa Bay and some days it is hard to catch fish even in the slot limit because there are so many big ones (great problem to have). These fish are up in the shallows early in the morning eating live bait and cut bait, then they start to move into deeper water or up under the trees as the sun really gets high. The trout are biting well in the deeper potholes, for the bigger trout your best bet is in the shallow water at sunrise. Just like the redfish, they get deeper as it gets hotter because they search for cooler water. The snook are biting as well and the season is just around the corner.

I am running an end of the summer special for the next two weeks so email me at [email protected] or call me at 813-293-4750 to find out more and book your charter. Don't miss out because the fishing is great right now. I am also using my brand new 2014 flats skiff which is running great and will get you to the fish.

Tight lines

Tampa Bay Fishing Forecast:

Redfish will begin schooling up and snook will continue to move back off the beach and onto the flats. Tarpon are still around but not in the big numbers as usual.
