Redfish Bonanza Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
November 28, 2011
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sunday was one of the days when all goes exactly as planned! From the very start the sun, moon, stars apparently were all in alignment. Gathering bait in the wind around bridges can be dangerous so I ran to one of my favorite grass flats and set up in 4'. I tossed several pieces of chum and the water came alive with flash after flash. One toss and done! That's never happened to me on a grass flat.

A short run to Ft Desoto on a negative tide has us hammering trout to 20"s within minutes. White baits were attacked rapidly for an hour. Mixed in with the trout were Bluefish, Flounder, Ladyfish and small sharks. A real smorgasbord of species. A quick switch to 1/8 oz. jig heads finished with Gulp shrimp proved irresistible to the trout with most catching a fish on every cast.

With the tide +.02 I was able to get on my redfish spot. 2/0 circle hooks baited with cut pinfish on 25 pound fluorocarbon leader found redfish eager to join the party. Monster headshakes and powerful short runs was the theme over the next 2 hours. We never waited more than 5 minutes before hooking up. Golden bronze bruisers 22" to 33" made for an incredible day.

Key in on the thickest mullet schools and soak a stinky cut bait in there path as redfish are mixed in and following the mullet.
