Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
This week was one of the nicest weather weeks that we have had so far this year. I don’t think the wind got over 15 mph all week, which for the last couple this is a record low. This week the Snook fishing was pretty good. As the weather keeps getting warmer these fish are moving toward their summer locations. The Snook of the week was a 32-inch Snook which we had to work for but was well worth it. This week we had a few days were we caught as many as 30 Snook or more it was a pretty awesome bite.
We had some really good Trout fishing this week. The water is warming up and the bait is moving out on to the flats. As the bait moves out the Trout follow. You could literally throw your bait into the water, count to 10, and if you didn’t have a fish or a hit you need to pull your bait back in and re-throw the bait or get a fresh bait. Most of the fish we were catching were between 16-18 inches with a few 20-24 inch Trout mixed in.
The Redfish this week were a little harder to catch. We caught a few Redfish each day but the bite was not was not as good as it was the week before. It was hard to catch the Redfish when just about every bait that hit the water a Snook would get to it before the Redfish had a chance. Definitely not something you would think to complain about. The Redfish of the week is a 31-inch fish, which for a 31-inch Redfish, it put up a heck of a fight!
We did manage to do some Tarpon fishing this week since the wind wasn’t blowing too bad. The bite has been pretty good. I had two different days where we jumped 4-6 fish each day and boated 1-2 of these fish. The Tarpon of the week boated was a 100lb Tarpon. One of our last days that we Tarpon fished we jumped a Tarpon that had to be every bit of 175lbs or better! This fish was so big it couldn’t even jump all the way out of the water, it just came up, shook its head, and threw the hook back at us. But it wouldn’t be a good week of fishing if we didn’t have a story about the big one that got away! Fishing has been great, Hope to see you soon!
