Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Not too Cold!

Well it is trying to cool down that is for sure. The past week we have had more then one cold front. But it has not cooled down too much that is for the live bait fishing. Some of the mornings have been a little slower but as the sun gets up then it starts warming up. Some of the mornings we have had to start with artificial.

Let’s start with the Snook this fishing has been better in the late mornings or afternoons. This is because of the water temp. Here lately if it gets much under 63 degrees these fish have not been eating too good we have still managed to catch a few fish but once the water temp get up over 65 that is when they start bitting better. In the shallow water on a sunny day the water temp will change 5 degrees or more at times this can make a big difference . The fish in the cooler water are a lot slower and will not chase the live bait sometimes you can catch these fish on jig and shrimp baits that move slower.

Trout well to say no more we have just not been doing any fishing for them the biggest reason is because they have been out of season. We have been catching a few but that is when we where fishing for the Snook or Red fish. Some thing a little different that we have been catching is Flounder we have had some very nice Flounder the past couple of weeks. These fish will eat no matter what the temp is. The only bad thing is that these fish can be hard to target for just flounder but sometimes we have had luck.

Then we have the Red fish these fish have been cooperating one way or the other. First thing in the morning we have been doing the best with jigs. You just have to work the bait slow jigging slow across the bottom in the shallow water. In the cold water these fish like to eat shrimp as well most of the we fish that we have been catching on jigs have been a little bigger but we have still had some nice fish on the shrimp.
