Tampa Bay Fishing Report

Capt. TJ Stewart
March 19, 2006
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing with a fly!

I will start with the Trout fishing we have had a few fish. But I can not say that we have been doing a lot of Trout fishing. Some of the other guides that I have talked to are catching a few but no one is killing them around this area. We need the weather to warm up a little more and the bait to move up in the bay further. But I do have one trout to talk about it was a big fish 28 inches and pushing 7 + lbs a very nice Trout.

Then I will go to the Red fish. I can say it has been a strange year for these fish so far we have managed to catch a few each trip. Some of the trips we have had a really hard time catching these fish. One of the biggest problems is the water clarity the Red fish spook real easy. But some of these trips we have had some good luck as you can see in the pictures. We managed to catch a few that were really nice. We had two fish this past week that were 32 inches. This is an awesome fish and we managed to catch two of them. But one fish was a little more impressive we managed to catch one of those fish on a fly with a fly rod. The most impressive part is that it was me that caught this fish. You fellow fly fishermen better watch out I’m getting pretty good with that fly rod.

Snook Snook and many more Snook to say no more the Snook fishing is going off. We have had a lot of luck the past few weeks with the Snook fishing. We have managed to caught a lot of nice fish. These fish are moving out of the rivers into the bays so a lot of our fishing is around the mouth of these rivers on some of the shallow flats. Like I said each trip we have managed to get these fish into a frenzy in one way or another. We have had a lot of nice fish this past week we had one fish that was pushing the top of the limit. Meaning that it was a big fish I thought this fish was oversize too big to keep. But when measured it was 33 3/4 inch Snook that had to weigh over 15 lbs it was an awesome fish. We had another great fish that we caught on fly it was a fish that was 31 inches. This was a nice fish even better that it was on a fly rod. Well to say no more it is getting to be that time of year you better make those trips soon.Come visit www.castawaychartersinc.com for pictures.
