Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hey fellow fisherman, December is starting off with a bang! Sorry that the report is late but I had a computer crash, you know how that goes.
Cold weather slowed us for a little but now we are on a warming trend. You know what that means, fast action fishing. Today it must have been 85 degrees out there, bringing afternoon flats water temperatures back up into the 70s, which is making those snook bite again. Look for those fish on the first flats close to their wintering areas. The fishing pressure is almost nil with everyone getting ready for the holidays, we feel like the only ones out there. I am really predicting a great week for fishing, the weather forecast couldn't be better and the fish should really be on the bite. There's not a lot of bait on the flats right now so if you have some the fish can hardly pass it up.
My partner Shawn and I have a few days available this week, so if you're looking for a short notice charter give us a call. There are lots of red fish to catch, of course snook, a few cobia, and lots of trout. We have also been doing quite good on inshore grouper. It has been incredibly calm out there and the water is very clear, we may even do a little sight fishing on the fly for snook this week. We have had a few days this week where we put 20 snook or so in the boat, that's pretty darn good coming up on Christmas.
Don't forget to be ready for the open of trout season, the big ones are biting and the season opens Jan. 1st. We have had lots of trout over 20 in., as a matter of fact Shawn had three trout yesterday between 24 and 25 in. caught when snook fishing.
Don't forget it's not too late to get your Christmas charter gift certificates! Also if you are planning on getting a date on the water for our hot, late winter, and spring fishing, its time to start planning, appointments are filling fast.
Well, if you get a chance get out and do some fishing, I promise you are going to miss out this week if you don't. Good luck!
Catch you on the water, Captain Matt Ercoli
