Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Ok, this is the kind of weather we have been waiting for! If you're in the surrounding area I'm sure you are enjoying it too. Gota love this sun, I know the fish sure needed it as bad as we do. Now there's talk of afternoon highs in the 80's by the end of this week. Oh Yeah!
Well, I would have to say that this past weeks fishing has been fair to good. I had a few great days on redfish, most of the fish are nice size slot fish. The biggest problem this week was their inconsistency to bite. When they're biting how great it is, but when I am standing there in my tower watching redfish pass inches from within my guys shrimp without biting, how frustrating, or maybe challenging is a better word. When you're able to sight cast to redfish, in no more than 2ft of water, you're having fun. I think the fun is in anticipation of the bite, when the fish finally takes it, what an adrenaline rush. I had a few days like that this week. The reds were out there thick, but extremely finicky. This is definitely uncommon for our redfish, usually if you can find and offer them live bait with the correct presentation it's a done deal. I do experience this lockjaw on reds occasionally during the cooler months. Still I am excited that I have more schooling redfish located than I usually do for this time of the year. In a few weeks it's going to be a hard decision, snook, redfish or better yet both.
The water temperature is in the low 60's and I'm hoping for it to warm up a bit more over the next week or so. My partner Capt. Shawn and I were discussing our thoughts on the up and coming fishing. We both agree that another week of this real warm weather and the snook fishing should come on strong.
In addiition to redfish, we're also catching lots of sheepshead, a few drum, a few keeper trout, flounder, and some real nice mangrove snapper.
Stay tuned guys because our fishing is fixing to explode over the next few weeks if the water temperature continues to rise.
Hope you have enjoyed my report and we'll see you on the water.
