Under the Stars

Capt. Steven Markovich
August 8, 2008
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week we ran under the stars and were rewarded with steady action. The late afternoon rains cooled the water often rapidly several degrees. The snook are on the dock lights eager to chase pinfish and threadfins. The Skyway Bridge is holding nice baits and only requires a couple of tosses to fill the live well. We then work back into Tampa Bay working the canals, docks and rocky structure with a special emphasis on underwater lights. Fishing was steady for smaller fish 22-25", we did have several big blow ups only to have these big snook treat us badly! Winning the tug a war with these brutes fishing in and against dock pilings, oysters requires stout equipment. Power Pro braided line minimum 20 pounds with 30 pound fluorocarbon leaders fly lining live baits is our basic tactic. Mirrolure's Mirrodine 17MR Greenback suspending bait is awesome. Our biggest snook this year and many other species were caught on the 17MR
