TAMCO Grand Slam Tournament Tampa Bay

Capt. Steven Markovich
April 15, 2011
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Captain Steven had the pleasure of being invited back for a 3rd consecutive year for the TAMCO Grand Slam fishing tournament. The TAMCO Foundation helps wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan. Please take a moment and visit their website. Better yet get involved next year and enjoy this first class event held at West shore Yacht Club.

I had 2 super anglers today, Paul and wife Angela were real troopers. I planed on fishing lower Tampa Bay as I am really dialed in and knew I could score a solid Grand Slam. With winds now blowing SE at 16 my plan B to fish Tampa Bay's eastern was not an option either. We made a bumpy but manageable run to Weedon Island. While I have not fished here lately I know the area very well.

First stop was one of my sure fire trout spots. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ best describes that spot today. Next up we fished shallow 2-3' along Mangrove shorelines with no success. Finally stop 3 yielded several trout to 19".

White baits and live shrimp both worked.

I changed gears and ran to the outside of Weedon and things finally got better. Several trout then we got the redfish action started. In quick order we took 5 reds to 19".

With enough time for one last stop we again got the redfish going with Angela scoring a beautiful 25" bruiser.

Great people great event.
