Tampa Bay Fishing Report 4/12/14

Capt. Mark Magni
May 12, 2014
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

White Bait is slowly moving into the upper bay. The grass flats are loaded with the new Pinfish hatch. The Trout we cleaned had small Pinfish in there stomach this week.

Redfish of all sizes have been caught this last week or so on live Greenback and cut bait. The key bite has been fishing in and around the Mullet schools and Oyster beds. The outgoing tide around Weedon Island has produced some over slot Reds coming out of the mangrove.

We have landed some nice Snook on the flats, The rocky shoreline, along the mangrove and around the bridge on free line Greenbacks and Pinfish.

Have spotted some Cobia around the markers. Had one take a Pinfish and one eat a Greenback, both were in the 30 inch class. Seems like the smaller one always the first to take your bait. Have and extra rod rigged up and throw right behind the Cobia that is hooked up for the larger smarter one.

Spanish Mackerel and Blue Fish are busting up the schools of Threadfin schools. Look for the diving birds.

Tarpon have been jumped around the Skyway Bridge. The bite is only going to get better with the flush of Pass Crabs on the outgoing tide around the Full and New Moons.

The peek time to catch Tarpon is May thru July. So if you want to hook into one of these monsters and watch them leap out of the water and have some heart stopping actions call and reserve your spot now. Limited spots available.
