Tampa Bay March Fishing Report

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tampa bay March Fishing Report

Capt. Matt here from sunny Florida the weather has been great. This past week the afternoons have been high 70's and just breaking 80's a few days. Yesterday when sitting in my boat watching my customers excitedly reeling in Snook I looked out over the crystal clear water and thought to myself, "I wish everyday was like this". We have a lot of really nice days around here, but I have to say that at that moment it just felt perfect.

Snook fishing has been nothing short of spectacular. We are absolutely destroying them. If I spend the whole day targeting Snook, 50 to 60 a day is the norm & I have had days with 70 and even 80. Most of the fish are 22 to 26 inches. We have been getting a few slot fish around 29 to 30 inches and a few monsters up to 39 inches. The fact is in this day and age with so many fishermen there is just not going to be many slot Snook. They are very slow growers and they quickly make it to someone's cooler, but none the less, they are one of the greatest sport fish on earth and the smaller ones fight like crazy and my fisherman love catching them.

The Redfishing has just begun to pick up. Lately I've been halving to work to get some nice keepers, most of which have come while Snook fishing. There are some really nice schools out there but they have been a little tuff to stay with and approach lately. This will change shortly & we should be killing it soon, with higher tides and warming water.
Trout fishing was a little hit or miss for me for a few weeks but I just got them dialed in early in the morning and it's all you want to catch and plenty of keepers.

The Offshore fishing has been spectacular. The kingfish bit is as good as it gets. I have had several fish over 30 a couple over 35 pounds this past week. Today we left the kings biting after catching 30 or so from 10 to 25 pounds. There cobia fishing is solid I have been see a few nearly every day, we caught a 40 pounder this week on light tackle. The mangrove snapper fishing is very good we have been getting plenty of nice keepers. There are some permit around we caught a 15 pounder today actually. We have also been getting a few grouper and amberjack mixed in throughout the day offshore.

I hope you have enjoyed the report, go to https://twitter.com/captmattercoli for up to the minute action reports.
