Vary your Retrieve

Capt. Dustin Hilliard

Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Still some snook to get shots at before it gets too cold. Pinfish and shrimp have been my go to on outgoing tides! Also, letting the sun warm them up a little can increase the bite, especially on colder days! The redfish bite has been best on high tides. Quarter size pinfish, select shrimp on a 2/0 circle hook gets the job done, along with a 1/8 ounce jig head left to sit on the bottom! The Spanish mackerel bite has been good using 1/4 ounce jig head tipped with shrimp or cut bait. Vary your retrieve to see what speed they like to commit to your bait! Trout haven't been super aggressive, but working artificial or live bait on the bottom slowly can yield some nice keepers.
