Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Upper Tampa Bay is full of all the inshore favorites, such as redfish, snook, tarpon and cobia. I find that while fishing for a particular fish such as redfish this time of the year, you will usually hook several species in one location. The variety of fish available makes fishing really fun, and assures all anglers a great day on the bay.
(REDFISH) Redfish are prevalent this time of the year. Seems as the temperatures rise, so does the redfish bite. The higher flood tides allow the redfish to stage in and around points, and mangrove shorelines. If you can find oyster beds close to these points, you will usually find redfish swimming around the them. There are a few key things that I look for when trying to find these fish during the higher tides. The first being is to find areas where there is good tidal movement, which allows bait to be flushed thru with the current. The second is to find some kind of structure, like oyster beds, residential docks or mangroves. If you can locate areas with these characteristics a live shrimp free-lined or under a cork will result in hook-ups. If you prefer artificial lures, the Johnson silver minnow in gold is weedless and is an effective bait.
Tampa Bay Fishing Forecast:

As the water temperature rises the hookups will increase as well. Look for the higher flood tides to start in May and really target the mangrove and oyster beds.
