July, August Fishing Report

Capt. John Fischbach
August 6, 2014
Tarpon Springs - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon Springs fishing guide service, Absolute Florida Flats Fishing, fishing reports for inshore flats fishing from Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs and New Port Richey has been good in the early morning hours, before the sun get's straight up. Fishing Charters leaving at 7 AM to 7:30 AM are catching small Tarpon, Trout, Snook, Redfish and many Jack Crevalle that put up great battles on the 8 to 10 lb. light tackle we're using. Caitlin Cordial (shown here with red-fish) and her father Paul ha a fine day fishing the Tarpon Springs area this week. The heat isn't to bad really, as long as there is some kind of breeze. There are still some nice Snook on the beach's and barrier island mangroves. Find the coolest water and many species will be ready to eat a nice fresh pilchard castnetted up that morning, with the new bait spawn returning from offshore it's best to use a 1/4 " castnet so as not to gill the smaller baits in your net, gilled baits make for a timely extra cleanup at the end of the day. Some guides this time of year when the water temperatures are high like to use cut-bait due to the fish being lethargic in the warmer water temp areas, pinfish, pilchards, threadfin herring are all good choices.

Shark's are a target I did not mention above but they are plentiful in a number of variety and sizes, we do use heavier tackle when fishing for shark's because you just don't know what's going to show up !
