Tampa Bay, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater & St. Petersburg

Capt. Clay Eavenson
February 9, 2008
Tarpon Springs - Saltwater Fishing Report

Time to Eat - Clearwater

Mark had his Father-in-law,

his brother-in-law, and his future brother-in-law in town and he

wanted to show them a good day on the water here in Florida. On the

agenda was to get some fish for dinner and since the season is open

right now in Clearwater, we tried our hands there.

The first spot we stopped at

was just a hunch. It was a little sand bar that is exposed on low

tide and had a school of redfish on it last week. When we got there

it looked promising but we had not luck. On to the next spot.

The next spot was a trough in

the middle of a shallow flat. On low tide the trout had been stacked

up pretty thick in there. They were there again today as well. I

lost count how many we caught but we picked through them to get the

three best for eating and put them in the cooler.

The last spot produced the

best fish. Everything we caught there was a keeper. We got 3 redfish

and 3 trout. The trout were, 19", 20", and 23".

We used live shrimp today for

the first couple of spots and saved the few greenbacks that I was

able to catch for the redfish spots we hit.

With this cold front coming

tonight, look for things to change a little bit. I think the fish

could feel it coming as the bite shut down completely around noon

today. Another guide that I know reported the same about today.
