Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week was absolutely beautiful. Fishing was excellent. Early in the week I was catching live bait and doing very well on snook, redfish, a few trout and large jacks. We saw a few big tarpon move into the islands and although I didn't fish for them, other guides reported catching a few off shore.
Snook seemed to be just about everywhere. They were in the front, middle and even the back bays. I fished primarily points and knock downs and found myself having double digit days with my clients. The redfish weren't off the hook, but we did catch a few. Jacks were plentiful and welcome as they always round out the day.
I spent the last four days fly fishing and we did quite well. We caught numerous snook and a couple of redfish to boot. Jacks were willing as well. The water temperature was in the high seventies and I was surprised that we saw very little in the "thin" water. We had most of our takes on the fly come off of points and deeper runs. I think it may be that we had negative tides this week. Who knows, I'm just happy to catch some glamour fish this time of year.
Yesterday, a cold front moved through and the temperature dropped. I am not sure how it will affect fishing, as is it warm and toasty outside right now so it was brief. We will find out tomorrow. I'll see you on the water.
