Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in February can be great in between fronts, yet it seems to be absolutely horrible on the cold blustery days that the unlucky client seems to get due to his small window of oppertunity!
Nothing can really be done about the weather and you never know what can happen in the 10,0000 Island's. I have caught some of my biggest snook in February deep in the Everglades, masses of Red fish huddled up in deeper corners. You never know unless you go!
For the lucky one who gets a summer like winter day, the fishing can be off the hook. Cold clear water makes sight fishing the shallow great. Snook and red fish warm themselves over the dark muddy bottoms.
Flyrod or spin tackle, sightfishing with small light baits with pin point accuracy leads to solid hook sets.
Winter brings other species into the game on the cooler days in deeper channels. Pompano, trout, bluefish and many more are willing to pounce on a slow moving jig.
On the special summer like days you never know what you can run across! Yesterday, angler Chris Wilson and I ran across a group of laid up tarpon up to 70 pounds. The fish were not in the feeding mode yet the anticipation before every cast was worth it. We had one follow it to the boat, but thats as close as we came.
Due to the economy work has been slow, giving me a chance to fish more. And I have noticed the loyalty from my regular clients this year returning for their next adventure. I just want to say thank you to all of you guys! Keeping my dream moving along.
