Fishing Report October 2017
October 11, 2017
Here in Southwest Florida, the the welcoming of Fall typically coincides with some of the best fishing we have to offer. For us, these 'transitional months' are indicative of some very productive fishing trips to come. Snook tend to feed heavily this month as they make their way into the backcountry in waves. Redfish will largely be concentrated outfront as their spawn pattern approaches and our Tarpon will continue to hang around until the end of the year.

Redfish are the big topic this month mostly due to the prevalence and ease to target. You can't go wrong fishing with live shrimp on the bottom or under a popping cork along hard bottom regions. Topwaters and darker hued swimming lures will get the job done as well. The anglers that wish to target them using the long rod, I hardly go wrong throwing an assortment of purple and orange feathers, or using your favorite crustacean imitations. As the water clarity after Hurricane Irma continues to clear up with these major tides we have had recently, expect the sight fishing opportunities to get progressively better in the coming weeks. Working the mangrove shorelines that have the ideal salt and pepper oyster bar grid will surely give you a chance at our Fall time pumpkins (redfish.)

Lastly, the crab traps are being put out by the thousands this week in preparation for the opening of Stone Crab Season which begins the middle of the month. This is a very anticipated time for anglers as we will be able to target triple tail along these crab pods!

Now is the perfect time of year to plan a trip on the water in beautiful Southwest, Florida! Feel free to call or email me with any questions on trips or our fishery.

Until next time... Got to make that Cast!
