Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore
Once again mother nature is hurling it's weekly cold front's in our direction. If you make it out on the warmer day's, fishing can be quite good. Fly fishing a day or two after the front has reliable action as long as your fishing the sunny shore lines. Red fish have been consistent in the shallow cove's over the darker bottom. Look for a little cove adjacent to deeper water. During mid day the red's are moving into the shallow's to feed. We have been having a lot of luck using my own version of the red fish candy in root beer with copper flash. The water has been clear with the northerly winds and the water level is on the lower side making for superb sight fishing. As for the non fly fisherman, jig's tipped with shrimp have been catching everything from reds, trout, bluefish, pompano, ladyfish, and of course, the hard pulling jack crevalle.
Getting your limit with trout should come quick in the deeper holes. And there is a few gator trout being caught over the grass bed's at first light with top water plug's. Since the net ban you can see the difference. We are starting to see some big trout in our area, up tp 30". Some thing you wouldn't see five year's ago.
If you want to enjoy some fine back water fishing, pick a day or two after the front. This time of year is nice because there is no need for an early start, let thing's warm up a bit and enjoy your day on the water.
Offshore
Offshore fishing is a tough thing this time of year. You definitely need strong stomach's for the rough weather. Snapper fishing is your best bet with lane snapper getting the most attention. There are a few grouper around, but you will have to venture a long way to get some keeper's. This time of year can be dangerous so be careful and check your local weather report's . We all know how each forecaster has a different report so do your home work. It's not a bad idea to tell someone where you plan on going and when you plan to return just in case you run into trouble. Better safe than sorry, or dead if the case may be. Tight lines and screaming drags to all.
