Southwest Florida - Naples, Marco, 10,000 Islands

Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report for August

Estero, Naples, Marco Island, 10,000 Islands, Everglades National Park

The month of August has got to be the quietest month of the year when it comes to boat traffic! Whether its due to the heat or the fact that the local population is at its lowest point. Whatever it is, out on the water is complete solitude.

This is probably the best month of the year to complete the "Everglades Slam" (tarpon, red fish, snook). All fish can be taken in relativly the same areas. Due to the extreme heat, first light is the prime time for the most action. This is prime time for top water plugs, or if your fly fishing Dahlberg Divers, Gurglers, and poppers.

As the sun climbs into the sky I ike to change up and fish the lower water column with Jigs or swim baits like the Hybrid, or Storm Wild Eye. Concentrate on structure with shade and current and deep water near by.

This time is also a good time to fishing clousers with sinking lines. Red fish and snook on the out side points can be non stop action if everything is right. Early morning at first light these fish will concentrate in these areas and feed heavily on the influx of bait with the currents.

Tarpon have been quite reliable in the creek mouths and outer bays at first light. They can be seen rolling in the morning in some of the deeper boat basins as well. These urban tarpon will range from 5 - 50 lbs, and will readily eat early in the morning or late in the afternoons, especially after the mid day rain storms.

Take the time and go fishing and enjoy the emptiness of summer. Lots of water and lots of fish to take full advantage of. Until next time, tight lines and screaming drags to all!

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
