Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report 10-31-06
Fall is here in the 10,000 Islands
Well it looks like fall is in full swing now! Several fronts have been roaring through our area changing everything. Where you found fish yesterday, are sure to be gone the next. Last Monday we were slapped by a strong front and it dropped our water temperature 14 degree's. From 84 to 70, talk about serious fish shock. All the winds are whipping up the bays, stirring everything up. If you look hard enough there is still plenty of fish to be caught.
I have been spending time searching with the fly rods in the shallows. There has been a good number of redfish on the shorelines at the last of the outgoing tide. Good sight fishing are there, but you need to spend some time poling and looking. The water is still pretty tannic. Muddlers in brown and black have been the fly of choice in the afternoons as the day warms up. First thing in the morning look into deeper trough's with clouser in either black or chartuece and white.
Bait fishing has been good as well with all the bait migrating from the north. Last Friday I and fellow Captain Danny Fabian took out a group of six anglers out for a half day. The head of the pack Mr. John Camera led his buddies into a non stop snook bite for two hours. We were about 75 feet apart fishing the same island in screaming distance from each other. These guys were having such a good time they were ready to cancel there round of golf. I couldn't tell you how many snook we caught, most were under the slot but we did land a nice 29" and jumped five tarpon up to 60 pounds. Throw in some stray mangrove snappers and we called it an excellent day.
Its nice to have great days like this when you have a good group of guys. Fishing is good, get it while you can. Winter will be here before you know it and the weather will be a major factor. Come fishing and enjoy Florida's Fall temperatures and migrating hordes of fish. The phones are ringing so don't hesitate if your thinking about getting into some fine Fall fishing!
