Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
Sight fishing and Trout Galore
Well winter is definately upon us now. Water temperature has been anywhere from 56 - 58 in the mornings and up to 64 by mid afternoon. The water clarity on the outgoing tide can be gin clear. And the wind seems to never stop blowing out of the Northeast.
Last week fishing with Richard Fuller from Alabama we sightfished four beautiful redfish ranging from 24" - 28" in 10 inches of crystal clear water with jerk baits. On one shoreline we saw 25 reds milling about or sluggishly laid up. Most fish had a bad case of lock jaw, but we did entice two to feed. As the tide filled in we moved to the back and found numerous other red fish in the tannic back bays. We conjured two more fish to take the jerkbait as we slowly crept it along the bottoms. This particular day the wind was blowing a steady 20 mph and we still could see these fish due to the clean winter water.
Friday the 24th I fished a duel boat trip with Capt. Bob Hartwell out of Goodland. My client John Camera and friend Ray and their two sons must have caught close to a hundred trout in four hours on tipped jigs between the two boats. We sat in the same hole for four hours catching fish on nearly every cast. Most fish were small, but aggressive! Throw in a dozen or so silver trout jacks and a snapper and the trip was a success. It just doesn't get any easier than that.
Season is starting to kick in so do not hesitate to book a charter. Whether you care to take the kids and have an easy day catching trout out of the holes, or test your angling skills and hunt down redfish in the crystal clear waters call soon. Until the next time, tight lines and screaming drags to all!
