Southwest Florida - Naples, Marco, 10,000 Islands

Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter Action in the 10K

Well there goes the weather! Winter is starting to do its thing and the weather changes like the wind. Gusty conditions and water temps fluctuating back and forth so much the fish are getting confused.

Last weekend I fished Estero bay and found water as warm as 77 degrees. Water level was so low, most of the bay was dry! As the tide rose redfish started to funnel in through the troughs along the trees. Fish were scattered to say the least and not to aggressive.

As the sun heats up the afternoon you can see snook laying up over the dark bottoms in the Everglades, willing to eat a well placed fly. Small patterns bumping the bottom has been the ticket!

Out front along the beaches, you can find plenty of fish to tangle with! They may not be the popular species that everyone wants to chase, but are willing to take a bouncing jig. Anything from bluefish, pompano, trout, mackeral, and ladyfish will save the day when the other guys have a case of the cold water lockjaw. Great action for the kids!

If sight fishing is your game, watch the weather and pick the nicest day with a falling tide. Fish the sunny shorelines that may catch some sort of current and you should find some worthy targets. Until the next time tight lines and screaming drags to all!

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
