Southwest Florida - Naples, Marco, 10,000 Islands

Capt. Jeff Legutki
November 25, 2007
Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Clean water means sightfishing success!

With the low tides and Northeast winds the water have been extremely clean and productive for sightfishing

The redfish have been spooky as bonefish, but with a low sidearm cast with smooth body movement can mean success. Average fish has been between 22" to 30 inches. The fly patterns (shrimp and crab)are small in neutral colors with a dipping action will lead to a solid connection!

Snook are also prowling the shallows in search of warmth as the sun climbs in the afternoons. Small baitfish patterns stripped slow will get the strike.

Off the beaches there are large schools of bonita, bluefish, and mackeral shredding pods of baitfish. Look for the diving birds and you will find success. Always watch the direction of movement of the birds and set up a point of connection. This can be a run and gun style fishery and can be tough when the bonita are moving fast, but if you hook up with one of these speesters on a nine weight it's worth the time spent. Its great to watch a 5 - 10 pound fish scream off 200 yrds of backing on the first run. Small glass minnow patterns have been working well if you can double haul and deliver the fly quickly to these fast moving palegics.

Bluefish and mackeral will keep you connected if the bonita don't get it first!

Season is starting off well and the calendar is filling up quick! So do not hesitate to call if you would like to experience some of the most exciting action of the year! So until the next report tight lines and screaming drags to all!

Capt. Jeff
