Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
Christmas Report
I want to start off wishing my clients and everyone else a Merry Christmas! Santa has been good to us down here with the mild winter we have had so far!
Water is fluctuating from the upper 60's to mid 70's. On the colder days the sight fishing for redfish has been fantastic. Numerous reds cruising the shallows in search of food providing great sight fishing oppertunities. On the outside, there is still numerous schools of mackerel, kingfish, and bonita.
On the warmer days, the snook fishing has been good as well. Plenty of giant snook in the Everglades National Park in the 40 inch range are on the move right now and making themselves targets. Last week two buddies and exceptional top notch guides Bill Faulkner and Kevin Merritt were having a busmans holiday in the Park. Bill caught a "huge" snook on a top water plug, said it was 43 inches and fat! Said probably wen 23-25 pounds, a true trophy on artificial!
Tarpon are even still around, stumbeling on a few laid ups while snook fishing and seeing some big ones in the passes smashing mullet! Of course when you have the tackle for them you don't see then, and then when you least expect it the oppertunity pops up unexpectidly and you're under gunned! Thats fishing for you in the 10K and Everglades!
Pompano and trout are here over the white sand flats near the outside next to grass beds. Jigs tipped with shrimp will provide lots of action! January trout will be in season to provide excellent dinners for those who are looking for fresh seafood dinners.
So Merry Christmas everyone and look forward to seeing you on the water. Tight lines and screaming drags to all who take the journey!
Capt. Jeff
