Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well the fronts are making their way down and the effects of winter are starting to take place. Lower tides from the Northerly winds, blowing all the water out and all the visibility is fantastic. Cool water, plankton free, clear as gin on the outside.
Sight fishing has been fantastic with a few small changes. Some days after the front the cooler water has kept the fish pretty lathargic, yet you can see them from a hundred feet away. As the weather starts to warm back up the redfish and snook fishing has been stellar. Numerous shouts on each shorelines with reds warming themselves in the shallows.
The crab pattern has been my goto fly, tied small with bead chain eyes. The fish are moving slow and don't care to waste alot of energy chasing faster fin fish, crawl the crab in their path and they'll suck it right up. Sightfishing at its finest.
Some large snook have been caught recently as they start lingering in their shallow winter haunts. Bill Driscoll caught a nice 32" snook on a black triple threat with me in the 10K Islands, Dave Teper nailed a trophy of a life time with Capt. Kevin Mahailoff deep in the Everglades that measured 39" and bottomed out the boga grip! Congrats guys, good work!
If you're the angler who enjoys the hunt, the challenge of chasing the greatest saltwater fish on the fly in mere inches of water, now is the time to fish.
