Spring is here

Capt. Jeff Legutki

Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well it feels like spring is in the air with the southerly winds and 80 degree days and water temps in the 70's.
We already had a wave of tarpon come through with some very impressive size fish, I mean fish in the 15o pound range. Giants!
Of course the first wave of fish always eat well due to the minor pressure put on the fish.

Bruce Rueben of Tallahassee jumped 7 fish the other day, and one way or another the found a way to get away, lol. That's tarpon fishing!
Snook fishing has been on fire as well. The warming trend has the fish getting more aggressive and willing to move a little to eat the fly. As well some nice fish have been caught in the mid 30" range and have seen some brutes swim away.
Red fish are always willing to play, especially in the 10K Islands. On the lower phases of the tide you can find them milling around in water less than 10 inches deep, searching for a well placed fly.

Weather has been the key to good fishing. Stable weather patterns equals happy, willing fish. Through in the front, like the other day and it shuts the fishing down for a day. Yet stable patterns are on the way with spring and the fronts will be farther apart if any at all.
Season is off to a great start with a lot of anglers getting their share of days on the water. I still have sporadic days open in the calender to fill.If you would like to get in on the action, call and lock your days down the will fill in so don't hesitate.

Ten Thousand Islands Fishing Forecast:

Fishing is about the go crazy with the stable weather and warmer temps on the way. Tarpon are going to keep flushing in with growing numbers.
As temps rise fish will be aggressive enough to start smashing top water presentations.
I love this time of year!

Target Species:

Tarpon/snook/reds

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
