Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well summer has arrived and it is off to a great start. The rain has started a little early, but most people appreciate the wet weather.
Typical morning this time of year we start out casting to rolling tarpon at first light. If the day is overcast it can last for several hours.
These fish average from 20 to 60 lbs. There are still some giants around that will catch you off gaurd!
The smaller fish this time of year cooperate real well, eating any well placed cast. Its common to land 3 or 4 in a morning using 10 wts with a floating line.

Since the rain has started the waters have taken their natural tannic state making it hard to see laid up fish. Plus with the water so warm they don't need to lay on top to absorb the heat from the sun, now they lay on the bottom to stay cooler.
As the sun climbs high in the sky, its nice to sight fish for snook and reds on the outside. Big female snook cruising around in search of food after the spawn. Throw in an afternoon rain storm, and everything calms down to a glassy state and the fish get invigorated by the cooling rain water and come to life.
Top water patterns like gurglers, hoppers, and poppers get blasted by extremely aggressive snook. It is a blast to watch these fish run over and blast the fly out of the water. They miss it alot, but yet so exciting!

If the heat is too much for some, try fishing at night under the lighted docks. This is not fishing, this is catching! Easy to land 30 snook in a night along with several small tarpon. Great for the novice fly fisherman, yet still a blast for the veteran! Full moon nights, fishing under the light of the moon is an experience as well, plugging the mangroves as if it was day time, only the fish are out from hiding under the trees hunting under the cloak of darkness!
The warmer month's are here, the crowds are gone and the fishing is off the charts! Call to book a charter and ask for summer specials. Summer is a very special time for the fisherman in S. Florida.
