Winter is in the Air

Ten Thousand Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well as I walked outside this morning I could feel the coolness of winter on the way. We are supposed to get our first cold front tonight, they say the air temp will drop to the lower 60's by tommorrow morning.

This will be the start of the transition for the winter movement. Snook and red will be relocating to their winter haunts. As the water temps drop the algae will stat to die off and the clarity will start to improve. The winds will start coming from the North and the water levels will start to get lower. Let the sight fishing begin!

This is my favorite time to sightfish for reds and snook in the extreme shallows. As the weather gets cooler the fish will gravitate to the shallows with darker bottom for extra warmth. Laid up or cruising the edges, sight fishing at its best!

Time to start down sizeing the patterns and switching from baitfish patterns to crustecean patterns. As winter weather cools down the bait will start to thin out and shrimp and crabs will be the most abundant food source.

Early morning starts are not as crucial now and the bite shall last longer throughout the day! Time to concentrate on the warmer walls instead of fishing the shadows.

I might be calling this a little early, but I like the cooler month's for sightfishing. I'm over the tannic waters of summer and higher water levels. Tarpon are still around but definetly on the move to their winter haunts.

We had a great summer tarpon run off the beaches but the numbers are starting to dwindle, especially now with the first system moving in.

Call now to book your days now for some of the greatest sightfishing in the months to come. The phone is staring to ring and the calender is filling up. Until the next report, tight lines and screaming drags to all!

Target Species:

Fly eating Redfish and snook

More Fishing Reports:

Come fish the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades National Park for tarpon, snook, red fish and more with either flyrods or light tackle. All artificial no live bait, geared for two anglers. Fly through the shallows in a Hellsbay Whipray. Fishing with the finest equiptment like Sage fly rods and Bauer reels or St. Croix spin rods and Quantum reels. Sight fishing is my passion! Target the toughest saltwater species in mere inches of water and fool them into eating year round.
