Faithful readers will have observed I didn't write a report last week. My apologies to those who missed it.

If we go back to Tuesday, 11/24, sons Maxx and Alex and friend Scott Radloff all hopped in my chariot with me. We drove to an undisclosed location somewhere between Fort Myers and Miami and met Cliff Kunde. Our goal- to shoot some hogs for Thanksgiving dinner.

There were fewer hogs than there were last year, but Cliff shot one for us, and then Scott shot another. We strung them up, dressed them out, put the meat in cold marinade, and headed back to Chuluota. We had some fire to build.

When we got back we got the fire started. We quickly built it to the point we were throwing serious pieces of oak on it. We needed coals on which to barbecue the hog.

Twenty or so of Maxx's friends showed up, with mass quantities of malt beverages. Let the games begin! There were lots of brats and wieners roasted on sticks, and marshmallows for somemores. I've never understood the popularity of somemores, and find it hard to think they'd be good with beer, but what do I know?

Scott showed up at 4 AM and started grilling the meat. I got up at 7 and started working on the turkey and squash. People started showing up about 1 PM. They kept coming, and coming, bringing food and drink. We had about 40 people sit down with us for dinner.

Unfortunately, Alex and I weren't here. He had gotten in a wreck right down the street from my house. We were dealing with state troopers and tow truck drivers. When we got back, sans our pickup truck (which was totaled), most folks had finished eating. We sat down and scarfed down some delicious delicacies.

After everyone finished eating we put our chairs around the still roaring fire. Folks gradually left, and finally at about midnight, after a long and exciting day, we went and crashed ourselves.

On Sunday 11/29 I left here at 1130 and went to the no motor zone, kayak on top of the chariot. I got to the first spot and immediately I saw a giant black drum tail. The weather was awesome and I figured I was in for an epic afternoon.

I made five casts to he drum. It spooked off the fifth. My prediction about the day's fishing was way off, though. While I saw a few more fish, none were tailing and I didn't get another shot. The water was high and because of that it was hard to see.

Today I fished Bob Kephart, a fly fisher and experimental nuclear physicist from the greater Chicago area. We fished the Mosquito Lagoon. It was pretty chilly this morning! We saw no fish at the first spot but after that saw fish more or less continuously all day.

However, the water is extraordinarily high for this time of year. Additionally, it was cloudy most of the day, with varying amounts of breeze. Not to make excuses, but it was hard to see. We had a few decent shots.

Bob did get a slot red on a redfish worm, his first red on fly, a ten spot fish. So while we enjoyed the day, and did see a reasonable number of fish, catching was pretty slow. In spite of that we had a good time, and I look forward to fishing with Bob again.

Life is short- GO FISHING!

And life is great and I really love my work!
