Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Space Coast report 4/16

Mosquito Lagoon fishing report from Spotted Tail, 4/16/06

Now booking tarpon trips for May and June along the Lee County Coast!

A joyful Easter to everyone.

The wind gods hath unleashed their fury, but it seems to have been spent.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday winds blew between 20 and 30 mph, and I sat at my computer and typed for various people.

Thursday I couldn't stand it inside any more so in spite of the weather forecast of more winds and clouds I launched the kayak on the Mosquito Lagoon. I would like to report that I found a bunch of hungry redfish. Oh that's right! I did! I released four fish near the top of the slot, all caught on black Clouser Minnows and Redfish Bites. They had their backs out of the very shallow water on a protected, lee shoreline, so even though the wind was blowing and rain was spitting I managed to find and catch a few, and was back on my way home by noontime.

Friday I took a short, three hour kayak trip on the Indian River. It was a gorgeous morning, absolutely beautiful. The fact that again the fish were wallowing around and waking made it that much nicer. I released three and broke one off on the strike. The flies I used were, 1) Electric Sushi, and 2) a chartreuse Sexy Fly. These were larger fish, well above the slot. Again, I was on my way home by noon.

Yesterday David Olson, from Wisconsin, and son Maxx joined me for some crabbing. I never used a chicken back for bait before but blue crabs love them, and we caught a cooler full that will be devoured at what I hope becomes an annual event- the Kumiski Easter Crab Boil. Maxx and Dave also spent some time hook and lining and caught three big sheepshead and two black drum, using fiddler crabs as bait. Fried fish will be on our menu, too.

Remember- life is short. GO FISHING!

Life is great and I love my work!!
