Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Outstanding Catch Dept.- This was a week for big fish. Last week I got that 44 inch fish. Saturday 15 year old Matt Earle of Cocoa Beach got two big reds, one of 40 inches and the other of 43 inches, out of the Indian River. The kid was really a good angler. He could see, cast, and fight fish, very impressive.
Tuesday 77 year old Jerry Matthews had me take him into the no motor zone. He wanted a Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club 4 lb. test record black drum. He hooked a BIG fish and fought it for two hours and twenty minutes. As I was going to net it the hook pulled out and the fish got away. We were both stupified. I haven't felt so bad about anything for a long time. Before we got back to the car he did get a 28 lb. (he had a certified scale) redfish on 6 lb. line. A nice fish!
On Wednesday fly fisherman Mike Jones from Portland ME got a 35 inch, 16 lb. redfish on a Maxx's Black Drum clouser minnow. Mike had never fished for redfish before, so that was really an outstanding catch.
Today in the Mosquito Lagoon David Strong and Jeff Reich got five reds (all slot sized) and three trout on fly and spin. Fishing is still pretty strong and should remain so into at least next month.
Upcoming Events- I'll be presenting seminars and signing books at the following events: Cypress Gardens Great Outdoors Adventure Show, March 17-19; Wilderness Outfitters (Kissimmee) Seminar, April 1; Florida Fishing Outfitters (Titusville) Anglers Day, April 15 and 16. Come on out and talk to me, I'd love to see you there!
