Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report from Spotted Tail:
During a slow week business-wise, I was able to spend some quality time with the family. Sunday afternoon we went canoeing down the Econlockahatchee River, starting at CR 419. The water was low and as clear as I've ever seen it. We didn't bring any fishing tackle, which was a BAD mistake. The river was full of bedding bream. I saw numerous largemouths, from peewee to jumbo in size, as well as numerous channel cats and gar. If I get a break from the saltwater stuff I want to go back and wade. Shouldn't be hard, it's just a couple miles from my house.
Tuesday morning I fished in Stuart with Capt. Mark Nichols, maker of DOA Lures. It wasn't a red-hot bite (I had been warned of such ahead of time) but we saw quite a few snook and hooked three, along with two seatrout. I always enjoy fishing with Mark, one of the world's most innovative lure makers.
During my charter with fly caster Lou Payor yesterday he got three reds on the Royal Phoenician Clouser minnow. I'm seeing more single fish lately (two of Lou's three were singles), which is a good thing. Particularly for fly casters, single fish are often easier to catch than schooling fish. A single is on his own. Schools have hundreds of eyes, ears, and lateral lines, and if you spook one fish they all spook.
My next speaking appearance will be a seminar at Wilderness Outfitters (27 Broadway in Kissimmee, 407-936-1829) on April 1st. If the weather's not conducive to fishing, come on out and talk to me. Don't forget Angler's Day at Florida Fishing Outfitters April 15 and 16!
Fishing is great and I love my work!
