Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Week of 4/6
Outstanding Catch Dept.- This week we had some near outstanding catch heartbreaks. On Monday Cliff Coughlin of Plattsburg NY hooked a big red on fly. In a case of unparalleled originality, the fly line got caught around the handle of the fly reel. Before Cliff could get the line pulled off the handle the fish had broken off. I had never seen that particular permutation before.
Tuesday, Don Forester of Freeport ME hooked a big red on an otherwise really yucky day weatherwise. The leader (my tackle) broke in the butt section. How often does that happen? If you see this Don, I'm very sorry that happened. This morning my fisherman stood me up so I went out on the Mosquito Lagoon alone. I got 11 reds, 10 on fly, and on my last cast I hooked and landed what proved to be a 25 pound fish. I was on the dock by noon, quite a morning.
While today was simply beautiful, the weather this week made fishing very tough. We got blown out yesterday, never even launched the boat. The wind blew so hard for the past two days that the water levels in the lagoon system, which had risen about a foot, dropped right back down again, blown out by the wind.
Last Friday Don Serensty of the greater San Francisco area got a couple of tailing fish and missed a couple others in the Mosquito Lagoon before the wind came up and ended the fishing.
My next speaking appearance will be at Angler's Day at Florida Fishing Outfitters April 15 and 16, US1 1 mile north of SR 50 in Titusville. There will be refreshments available. For more info call them at 407 868 0000.
Fishing is great and I love my work!
