Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Updated 4/20 Outstanding Catch Dept.- Our outstanding catch this week was an almost but not quite heartbreaker. After getting blanked last Friday, Bob Caprera hooked a giant redfish Saturday morning while using a weighted brown Seaducer. He fought the fish for about fifteen minutes and had it within about ten feet of the boat when the hook pulled out. Gone.
The fish in the Mosquito Lagoon were abundant but still very spooky this week, making fishing frustrating at times. It was not unusual to see several schools of fish
in a day in very shallow water and yet have only marginal success catching them because they wouldn't let us near them. Kit Sutorius must have made 50 splendid casts to fish on Monday. They just wouldn't eat. He finally hooked, then lost, a nice red on a pink shrimp pattern. He did get one red and one trout on Tuesday, a tough two days fishing for sure. Popular opinion says that the full moon affected the fish's daytime appetites.
Yesterday Dr. Don Pyle and fellow physician Warren had casts at loads of redfish. In spite of getting bit seven times only one fish came into the boat. Missed strikes and one lost fish were the main culprits.
Today Bill Woodson and Dr. Steve Morris got a half dozen or so redfish on various flies, including Steve's first red on fly. They even poled me onto one! But it was still fairly tough fishing, with lots of excellent presentations either getting a follow but no take or getting no response at all.
As the moon wanes fishing ought to improve. I hope so. But....
Fishing is great and I love my work!
