Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 6/8
Outstanding Catch Dept.- On Monday I had the pleasure of fishing Mr. Mark Leo, from Pennsylvania, and Mr. Dwight Black, who lives in Orlando. Mark had never fished here before, nor had he ever seen a redfish. His first red was a bull, 44 inches long and over 30 pounds. I told him how lucky he was and that he would probably never get another one like that. He promptly proceeded to prove me wrong by getting an even bigger one from the same school. What a tough act to follow!
Friday last I fished Dr. Bob Hicks, a local orthodontist, and brought along my son Maxx, who is one of his patients. Maxx got a 36 inch red and hooked and broke off another one. Bob got one slot sized fish. Being outfished by an 11 year old, what is the world coming to?
Yesterday I fished Ricardo Vargas and Richard Graffuis, both central Floridians. They got 5 slot reds between them, along with a trout of about five pounds. All things considered, fishing has slowed considerably in the past few weeks. The big concentrations of slot sized fish that were so common all through the winter and spring are disappearing with little if any corresponding increase in singles. There are still some big schools of crevalle, particularly in the Indian River. I keep waiting to see the baby tarpon that usually show up in the lagoon at this time of year. None yet, though.
Fishing is great and I love my work!
