Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 9/7
Yes, it's a slow time of year business wise. I had zero charters this week so fished by myself Friday and Tuesday, wisely avoiding the Labor Day crazies out on the roads and waters.
Friday I fished in the Banana River for maybe four hours, using the Bang-O-Craft. I found a huge school of ladyfish under a flock of excited terns and gulls. I only had two flyrod poppers with me and quickly lost both of those, but not before boating a lady that was pushing four pounds. Awesome fish! Then I got several smaller ones on Clouser minnows. I have no idea how many I missed or hooked and lost, but it was a lot. Then I left them to go exploring.
I checked a section of shoreline I had motored past dozens of times but never poled along. Do you know, there were redfish all along that shoreline, slot sized fish. I got several on a purple Clouser minnow, and had the boat on the trailer just before noontime. A very productive morning.
Tuesday I looked on both sides of the Indian River, also from the Bang-O-Craft. Slot sized reds were scattered all the way along both shorelines. Visibility was tough and they kept seeing me first. I got one on a DOA Bait Buster on my last cast, and had the boat on the trailer before noon.
Yesterday Tammy DiGristine and I took the canoe off the dike road on the Indian River. We got several reds between us, Tammy on a Dupre Spoonfly and me on a chartreuse Clouser minnow. Again, the fish were mostly scattered singles, slot-sized fish, and again, we were off the water before noon.
So fishing this past week has been steady if somewhat unspectacular. Hang on, baby, the mullet run is just around the corner now!!!
Fishing is great and I love my work!
