Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 10/12

Happy Columbus Day! When I lived in New England there would be a release of water from the dam on Vermont's West River every year on Columbus Day weekend. Every paddler from hundreds of miles around was there, playing in the rapids, a huge, wet party. I have fond memories associated with this date as a result. Excuse my digression.

Outstanding Catch Dept.- Hahahahaha!!! Any catch this week was outstanding.

Monday was as windy as it gets without putting up the hurricane flags. Since then it's just been normal windy, averaging about 15 out of the northeast. Because it hasn't rained in a week two things are happenning- the wind is blowing the water out, so the level is dropping, and the water is clearing up. Both of these things are good news for sightcasters.

I went out scouting yesterday in the Indian RIver for three hours and saw quite a few fish, mostly reds and a couple of tarpon. I cast to a few reds and got one on a DOA Shrimp.

This morning I had a half day in the Indian River with Jules and Warren. We saw at least 60 fish and they put 6 in the boat, mostly with soft plastics but one on a surface plug. This in spite of the wind! I hope this is a developing trend, I am sick of high dirty water and not being able to see.

My next report will be a few days late and somewhat exotic, as I'll be in Louisiana for the next week. I hope I have a couple of fish stories to share. If past experience is any indication that will not be a problem.

Next weekend is the Orlando Shallow Water Show at the Convention Center. I'll be presenting seminars. If anyone cares to come and listen I would love to see you there!

Fishing is great and I love my work!
